Jay Gilbert, aka classically trained producer, DJ and studio engineer Teva is a name synonymous with the new wave of hot young UK DJ/Producers coming out of the current underground dance scene. Having previously infiltrated the high ranks of the Dance world with a string of well received remixes and EP releases under his No Brainer moniker, Jay has already started to set the night on fire as his latest incarnation Teva. With Teva, Jay is focussing on his musical roots and his mastery of the piano, creating a live and organic sound with both his productions and his live shows.

Being a classically trained pianist from an early age, Jay's perfectly pitched ear allowed him to replay anything he listened to on TV and radio innately. This gift was taken and adapted to electronic music during his mid teens due to an intense interest in seminal acts such as Faithless, Massive Attack and Groove Armada. 

During College, Jay got to grips with production, learning to use a fully functioning analogue studio and experimenting with the likes of Logic and modern digital production equipment. This experience and knowledge was elevated by a 3 year Degree in Music Production and Engineering, in which Jay excelled. During this time he began DJing heavily across the UK and gained his first signing and debut release to Jim Rivers’ Misfits label, a 2008 EP that gained heavy weight support from major players including Dubfire, Hernan Cataneo, Nick Warren and Steve Angello.

Currently enjoying success with a string of releases on burgeoning south coast label ALiVE Recordings under the No Brainer and Teva aliases, Jay has been credited with support from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Yousef, James Talk and Joris Voorn. Jay has also scored a massive success with a number one DMC Buzz Chart placing of his killer remix of Groove Armada’s ‘I Won’t Kneel’, a partnership with his child hood heroes that looks set to continue in the near future.

Overall. Jay is a very passionate musician, a highly skilled, and well respected producer and engineer. As successful and talented with his DJing as he is with his production.  Above all, he is a very driven and motivated young star of the scene. As well as continually working on his own releases and remix commissions, Jay is currently engineering for a host of up and coming producers. As a DJ he continues to receive all manner of high profile bookings across the UK. 

Jay is one of the brightest UK prospects I’ve heard in the last year. His techy house sound that oozes funk and soul in all the right places sets him apart from a lot of new names on the scene. I am sure we will be hearing a lot more of from this talent in the future! – Jim Rivers
